Suite 7a pays respect to the Gadigal people of the Eora nation, the traditional custodians of the land on which Suite 7a operates. Sovereignty was never ceded. Deepest respect to elders past and present.
Suite 7a is independent and began in a studio in Sydney, Australia. The first projects to come out of working in the space were organised by Rafaela Pandolfini with Ainslie Templeton; Session Vessels held off-site at Airspace Projects in 2018, followed by An Unintended Consequence (of labour) at The Downing Centre window boxes and Cosmopolitan at The Drill Hall, Rushcutters Bay in 2019 organised by Rafaela Pandolfini with Jana Hawkins-Andersen.
Exhibitions were also organised out of the physical Suite 7a premises at 66 Oxford St Darlinghurst Sydney. In 2018 and 2019 we ran a series of exhibitions in the hallway of the building including solo presentations by Rozsa Erica, Marilyn Schneider, Dylan Nicols, Robin Clare and Kevin Cheung, as well as 2 shows in the studio space by Rebecca Scibilia and Elise Peterson.
This online store showcases works from the exhibitions that Suite7a has organised as well as a larger community of artists and friends. Plus independently produced publications.
The store is designed to reflect the very broad artistic premise of Suite 7a and its associated exhibitions and events. Suite 7a encapsulates all art practices and focuses on artists as independent, autonomous entities. We are interested in alternative exhibition models and ways of organising. Most importantly the priority is to change as we learn and to take care throughout all communication, artists process of creating of the work, transactions and afterwards.
The works are affordable, and limited to small editions.
Suite 7a takes a 30% commission on the price of the works and pays the artists within 24 hours of receiving payment. Suite 7a uses the commission to pay the monthly big cartel fees, design worl and also to pay the artists who work on the site and associated projects.
